French 'Spiderman' scales building in Berlin

BERLIN (AFP) - Alain Robert, nicknamed the French Spiderman, scaled a building in the commercial heart of the German capital on Friday without safety gear.
Cheered on by supporters, Robert climbed up the 106-metre (336-foot) Debis Tower in Potsdamer Platz, pausing halfway up to attach an advertisement for his sponsors, a mobile telephone company.
The police did not attempt to follow him up the tower, but were waiting for him when he climbed down and took him into custody.
He was fined for disturbing public order and released, police spokesman Andreas Polley said.
Robert, 45, has scaled more than 50 buildings, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in New York and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
