A rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great French chef despite his family's wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the sewers of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unlikely - and certainly unwanted - visitor in the kitchen of a fine French restaurant, Remy's passion for cooking soon sets into motion a hilarious and exciting rat race that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down.

June 12, 2006 - Hot on the heels of Pixar's seventh film hitting theaters this past Friday, the teaser trailer for number eight, entitled Ratatouille (pronounced "rat-a-too-ee" according to the official site), has hit screens (and computers) nationwide. Cars, the final release under the old Disney/Pixar deal, opened to $62 million this weekend, another likely hit for Disney's flagship animation division. Ratatatouille will mark the first release from the new deal.

Although little is known about the new film, the voice of Ratatouille in the trailer appears to be comedien Patton Oswalt (King of Queens), though this is not yet confirmed. The voice of the chef is Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond). The film is being co-directed by Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles) and Jan Pinkava, who directed the early and acclaimed Pixar short, Geri's Game, which originally premiered before A Bug's Life.



The story apparently revolves around a rat named Ratatouille who lives in a high-class restaurant in Paris. As the snooty chef attempts to please his high-class clientele, Ratatouille becomes the bane of the chef's existence, showing up at the worst possible moments and scaring away customers. Although Rat's friends suffice on garbage and the like to stay out of harm's way, Rat has gotten a taste from primo food and can't resist the temptation to go after more.
